Take Action regarding Water Closure at MAC

Dear MAC Members

REGARDING CLOSURE OF MILNERTON AQUATIC CLUB’S WATER DUE TO A HIGH E-COLI COUNT

We at MANCOM feel it is all of our responsibility to apply as much pressure on the City of Cape Town to rectify their inability to manage a very serious environmental situation, not only does it impact on the survival of our club but the entire area leading to the Lagoon.  I am calling on everyone to:

1) Lodge a formal complaint (C3):

https://www.capetown.gov.za/City-Connect/Report/Lodge-a-formal-complaint

2) Report an environmental crime with the Department of Environmental Affairs known as the Green Scorpions via the following routes:
Green Scorpions – Ph 0800 205 005 and/ or
E-Mail:   Law.enforcement@westerncape.gov.za

3) Like, follow & donate to OUTA on Facebook – Link:  https://www.facebook.com/outasa

We feel it is criminal that the council we have elected to keep us and our environment safe have not acted on managing a problem they have been fully aware of for years.  They & their employees have to be held accountable for their misdoing.
PLEASE SHARE FAR & WIDE, WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

Kind regards
MANCOM
(MAC Management Committee)

Table Bay Nature Reserve, Rietvlei Sections Waterbody is CLOSED TO ALL ACTIVITIES

PLEASE NOTE: ONLY THE WATER AT MAC IS CLOSED, THE CLUB IS STILL OPEN AS PER NORMAL HOURS – ALL SOCIAL EVENTS WILL CONTINUE’ – See letter below from Table Bay Nature Reserve.

Dear TBNR PAAC

Find attached, as from today with immediate effect, the Table Bay Nature Reserve, Rietvlei section’s waterbody is closed to all activities.

This decision was taken after consistent monitoring of the waterbody over the past weeks, indicating high levels of E.coli which poses health risks to users.

We have also had interdepartmental meetings and / or discussions with Environmental Health and Water and Sanitation, and a decision to close the waterbody to all recreational activities, including fishing and the use of power boats was taken.

We will continue to monitor the situation and will keep the PAAC updated.

Thank you for your co-operation in this regard.

Regards

Charline Mc Kie
