Radio Control Sailing

Radio Sailing was established many years ago and has quickly evolved into one of the most exciting and competitive sailing sports today.

In the Cape and at MAC we sail the International one metre class, which implies that this class is strictly governed by a set of measurement rules. All boats are virtually the same with some changes in hull design being affected. Mostly two channel radios are used, of channel to operate the winch and the other the rudder. Radio Sailors use the ISAF rules and are governed by the E section under the sailing rules.

Our first major regatta took place over the weekend of 8/9 May 2004, in which we had 17 competitors sailing for the coveted Western Cape Championship title. The winds for the regatta proved to be fantastic and the weather was great. Some of our up country competitors remarked that this would be a great place for the "Worlds". Can you imagine the "poms" sitting here with a glass of Cape Wine in their hand under the shadow of Table Mountain. What a great statement and we certainly know that the overseas competitors are very keen to come and participate in South Africa and what a great feather in our cap it would be if this World Championship could be held at the incredible venue of the Milnerton Aquatic Club. This great achievement of being full members of MAC has enabled the Cape radio sailors to create more exposure to Radio Sailing and hence more members will be joining the Club, not only for the Radio Sailing that we provide but also for the other excellent activities which the Club offers. For instance our Braai on Saturday evening was a resounding success with many people wanting to bring their families back for another occasion like this.We believe that the efforts of the MAC committee and the various sub committees will greatly enhance our efforts to have a further membership drive. We are pleased to announce that with Radio Sailing joining MAC the Club has achieved an extra 20 full members which we believe will grow in the future.
