Sailing calendar in the process of alteration

Please remember that the Sailing Calendar has been altered as per our notification under “Press Release”, posted recently. Thus we will not be having the Summer 4 regatta this Sunday. The Summer & Autumn Series are being replaced by other bigger & better Regatta’s such as the very successful Stadium Racing which we had the first one last Saturday.
See Press Release poster below……
We are in the process of altering the Events Calendar on the MAC Website. Please keep your eyes peeled for more information shortly.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Kind regards

12-HOUR CHALLENGE

Youngster determined to sail the 12 Hour Challenge Solo

MAC 12 Hour 2018 News
We are currently in full swing with the MAC 12 Hour Challenge.  All eyes on Jared Tyler who is determined to race the MAC 12 Hour Challenge on his own, on a Laser. We only have a handful of people who have managed that & they were adults.  In my memory the following sailors have sailed the 12 Hour solo, Ryan Barnardo on a SonnetMichelle Allardice on a RS Tera (First Lady) & Hansie Vonschutz.  Jared would be the youngest.

I do recall Hansie still having bandages on the back of his legs two weeks later, Ouch!

Come on down & support Jared in this venture.

International Day of People with Disability – 3 December 2019

Know them for their ability, not for disabilities.
TODAY is the #InternationalDayofDisabledPersons –
3 December 2019, a day that aims to promote understanding of people with disabilities and support for their dignity, rights and well being.
On the 2nd February 2019 we had the official opening of the First SA National Sailing Centre for people with
disabilities, taking place at the Milnerton Aquatic
Club.
Milnerton Aquatic Club is proud and privileged to be associated with the SV14 Sailing Program, designed by Alex Simonis and Maarten Voogd who took up the challenge to design a new & affordable competitive boat for people with disabilities.
This special boat is a two-person dinghy designed for people with disabilities & other physical impairments.
Thanks to our sponsors we have ordered ‘5’ SV\14 boats from China, due to a delay in manufacture they have not arrived yet unfortunately, but we are expecting them to arrive early next year 2020. We look forward to their arrival.
See the SV\14 Website for more information about this boat: sv14.org

Water Notification Warning

UPDATE ON RIETVLEI WATER QUALITY

Dear Members

We received the following feedback from Nature Conservation/the City regarding the latest water test results (7.9.2019). The blue green algae bloom is transient in terms of location and moves around the vlei and shoreline according to wind direction. The results from samples taken at different spots in the North Vlei show a low risk (at one point slightly moderate risk) according to World Health Organisation´s standards. Warning signs have been put up, in general swimming is not allowed in Rietvlei and we recommend to rinse well after being in the water.

Users are reminded to avoid areas with visible scum accumulations.

The vlei remains open and the City will continue monitoring the water quality.

Kind regards

MAC Management

Please note: see pic as a reference guide. (Pic not taken at MAC)

Dear Members

As a precaution, we would like to inform our members that latest test
results show cyanotoxins in Rietvlei, caused by blue green algae. The
water body is under surveillance and remains open.
Enter on your own risk. Parents to supervise their children.
Avoid areas with visible algal concentrations or blue-green algal
scums (‘blooms’).
Cyanotoxins can cause skin, eye and ear irritations. Uptake of high concentrations of
cyanotoxins can cause abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, flu symptoms etc.
As a precaution:
● Don’t sit downwind of any algal material drying on the shore to avoid inhalation.
● Wear close fitted clothes or wetsuits.
● After coming ashore, shower or wash yourself down to remove any algal material.
